Whether in peace or conflict, rape of
women is a blot on humanity. If done in a peace time, it is an indication of a
law and order problem which led to failure of state and most importantly it is
a most heinous, cruel and barbaric act on the part of irrationality of human psyche. A civilized
society never allows violence against women. It might have been there in state
of nature when there was no government and when there was no concept of the
state but shameful is the today’s generation who boasts of its ideology still
submerges itself in such heinous acts. Surprisingly we didn't hear of rape
cases from our forefathers but it might be possible that those periods were
highly constraint to introduce such acts in the public. State was created in
order to bring an order in the society and for the development and growth of
human personality. Now when we are in 21st century and we have moved
far ahead its shocking how we can think
of committing of these atrocities against women who are other half of the
humanity(Wake up men...many of you won’t agree but once remember your mother’s
face and she is for sure a proud and respectable women). And when it is
committed in conflict, it is the most dangerous weapon to dishonor women’s morality
that shatters the hopes of a particular community against both the legal system
of a country and the society.
It is the most dangerous weapon not for sexual pleasure with
particular individual but with an intention of suppression and conquering of a
particular community. The victim of this crime is psychologically so ashamed of
herself that most of cases go unreported. And if these victims get courage to
fight for justice, the society around them is so inundate that many questions
are raised about their character and even if they muster courage to get justice
from the judicial system and the society too, it seems nowhere near to their
reach. The victims suffer every moment throughout their lives and die every
fraction of second. Rape is double-edge sword, first leading to psychological
violation and second social blackball in most societies and which is common to
mask the identity of rape victims for fear of social stigma. It creates so many
crises in her life whether it is upbringing of her child in the society which
was born out of rape or for her sustenance and livelihood in the same society
which is myopic in understanding the hardship and difficulties the victim has
gone through. Instead of giving them solace and punishing the perpetrators either
we curse the victims of the time which is not their fault at all. Until
recently, no perpetrators of the ever biggest human tragedy of the aftermath of
Partition violence in which around seventy-five thousand women were victims of
this kind brought to justice.
Rape is not simply an act where a particular female is
targeted but it aims to destroy a particular community. Think in solace and you
would end up with the notion of a highly standardized conspiracy.
